Intrauterine Adhesions, Part 2
“Is having lighter menstrual flow really just a normal phenomenon?”
“Why does the embryo keep failing to implant? Could there be something wrong with my uterus?”
These are common questions in clinical practice, and sometimes the answer may lie in intrauterine adhesions.

🩺 How is it diagnosed?
The most commonly used methods are:
• Hysteroscopy
This allows direct visualization inside the uterine cavity to clearly assess the adhesions. It is the most accurate diagnostic method.
• Ultrasound or hysterosalpingography, HSG
These can be used as auxiliary tests, but their resolution is limited.
💡 Treatment options
The most effective treatment currently is hysteroscopic adhesiolysis:
• Under direct hysteroscopic visualization, scissors or a cold knife are used to carefully separate the adhesions.
• Severe adhesions may require multiple surgeries.
• After surgery, an intrauterine device or balloon may often be placed. Estrogen therapy, platelet-rich plasma, PRP, injection, and other methods may also be used to help regenerate the endometrium and reduce the chance of re-adhesion.
🌱 Postoperative care and prognosis
• For mild adhesions, pregnancy rates are generally good after treatment.
• For moderate to severe adhesions, repeated treatment may be needed, and pregnancy rates may still be affected.
• Postoperative follow-up is very important. A repeat hysteroscopy is usually performed 4–6 weeks after surgery for confirmation.

Although intrauterine adhesions may sound frightening, with early detection and timely treatment, most patients still have the chance to restore normal menstruation and improve their chances of pregnancy.
If you have previously undergone endometrial-related surgery and later notice a sudden decrease in menstrual flow, or if you have experienced repeated failure during fertility treatment, further evaluation is strongly recommended. Do not overlook this issue.
